- Antalya Darülmuallimin Mektebi'ne gidebilmesi için yaşı, ailesi tarafından üç yaş büyütülen Dürdali Karasan, henüz 14'ünde ve ikinci sınıf öğrencisiyken, onbeşliler olarak bilinen 1315 (1899-1900) doğumlularla askere alınır. İstanbul İhtiyat Zabiti Talimgahı'nda aldığı kısa eğitimin ardından 1916'da Suriye-Filistin Cephesi'ne gönderilir. Birüssebi-Gazze Meydan Muharebesi'nde yaralanarak bir süre hastanede tedavi görür. Aynı cephede katıldığı Nablus Meydan Muharebesi'nde esir düşer ve Mısır Seydibeşir Esir Kampı'nda iki yıl sürecek esaret günleri başlar. Savaşın ardından, ailesi şehit düştüğünü düşünürken, zorluklar içinde Kalkan'daki evine ulaşır ama kısa süre sonra Mayıs 1921'de İstiklal Harbi'ne çağrılır. 9 Eylül 1922'de İzmir'e giren ilk askerler arasındadır. Üçüncü kez askere alındığında yıl 1942'dir. Dürdali Karasan'ın, 1918'de Filistin Cephesi'ndeyken, Sekizinci Ordu Komutanı Cevat Paşa'ya sorduğu Paşam Nereye Kadar Çekileceğiz? sorusu, bu anılara da adını veriyor. Dostu Cevat Şakir Kabaağaçlı'nın daktilo ettiği metin, 67 yıllık ömründe üç kez askere alınan Dürdali Karasan'ın çocukluğu, zorlu savaş dönemi, esaret günleri ve maceralı yaşamının yanı sıra, iç ve dış siyasi gelişmelere ilişkin değerlendirmelerini de içeriyor.
